Let’s Give Them Pumpkin To Talk About…..

Happy Almost Halloween!

SPEAKING OF PUMPKINS

New recipes comin’ in hot (quite literally)!

On the horizon we have Lentil Pumpkin Curry, Southwest Corn Chowder and Power Veggie Pasta featuring some fun fall veggies! As always we love hearing your ideas for new recipes, and we also love when you give us your feedback! Because of YOU, we learned that one of the soups was a bit spicy and we were able to warn others to scale back on the cayenne. It takes a village to navigate this kind of stuff and we really appreciate the opinions! Have an idea? Let us know – we pay $ for recipes!!!

FRIENDLY REMINDERS

If you hit traffic and are running late to class (or for any reason!) please call or text me, Emily or the host. Keep these numbers in your phone! We cannot help what we do not know, and I cannot tell you how stressful this is for our hosts not knowing where you are or wondering if class is happening. Being late happens, causing panic attacks should not.

Make sure you’re checking the pantry and alert us if you see something funny or if a date doesn’t make sense. It could be that there’s no class that day, but it could also be human error. If you see something, say something!

SPARKING JOY, STIRRING MISCHIEF

Kids, man. Sometimes we find ourselves with a child that we are certain is the master of stirring chaos instead of ingredients. Karen shared with me 2 great tips for correcting bad behavior or redirecting:

1) I teach the kids about the words sous chef (meaning assistant), and if one or two need redirecting, I simply ask if they would like to be my personal sous chef or assistant for the duration of the class. It makes them feel important and empowered to be given “special jobs”.

2) Sometimes, I have those that don’t really want to help cook, but HAVE done the prep work, play “Telephone” while sitting at the table. It usually keeps them occupied for a few minutes.

I had to look up what Telephone was (because I’m old) and turns out this is what we called Whisper Down The Lane back in the 70’s/80’s. Good times… If all else fails and you cannot redirect or correct, please let us know so that we can jump in and offer support.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, SNOW IS A BEAST

While I prefer to take my time and enjoy the rest of my autumn, I would be remiss if I didn’t shed light on the fact that winter is coming (RIP Game of Thrones). We will be watching weather alerts and storms VERY closely. Here’s the drill if there is snow:

If your class is held at a school, and school closes early, or is cancelled for the day – NO CLASS.

If your class is held at a recreation department – TYPICALLY – they follow the school closing and, as above, class would be cancelled.

We will always confirm via email and text!

Most sessions have a week built in between as a make up possibility. If it snows and we miss a class, a week is added to the end of the session to make up for the missed date and we will let you know as soon as that’s determined.

Enjoy your Halloween! Eat, drink & be scary!
