Facilitator job description:

Job requirements include:

• Procurement and storage of necessary ingredients and equipment.
• Enthusiastically facilitate the preparation of the required recipe and deliver the nutrition message associated with said recipe.
• Ensure the safe handling of cooking tools with close supervision and hand-over-hand assistance.
• To ensure that children with food allergies are safely accommodated by scrupulously following our food allergy action plan.

It is our mission to motivate positive change, and we are looking for someone with that same excitement and passion. You will fit in best with the kids if you are punctual, reliable, funny, creative, flexible, and engaging.
• You must be comfortable with young people. Classes enroll up to 12 participants.
• You must be willing to submit a CORI report with the school system, and it must be approved.
• Must be willing to submit a fingerprint if the school system requires it.
• Must have a valid license and a vehicle.
• Must have, or be willing to obtain, Epi-pen certification, Food Safety certification, and Allergen Awareness Certification.
• Each of these are obtainable online for a nominal fee, and certification lasts a few years.
• Must be physically able to lift 30 lbs — this position involves a bit of “schlepping”

At Kids’ Test Kitchen, we believe facilitators do their best work when they’re supported. That’s why we:

• Provide the curriculum, lesson plans, recipes, shopping lists, and ongoing support, allowing you to focus on creating a great experience for participants.
• Pay competitively for every class you facilitate.
• Invest in your success with a one-time orientation payment to help you get started.
• Fund every class in advance, so you’re never expected to cover the cost of ingredients and consumable supplies out of pocket.

Class Compensation

Kids’ Test Kitchen facilitators work with us as independent contractors (1099) and have the flexibility to accept assignments based on their availability.

• Earn $60 for every class hour you facilitate.
• A typical session runs for 6 weeks, allowing you to earn $360 per session.
• Some partner locations offer longer sessions, or back-to-back classes.
• Facilitate as many sessions as fit your schedule.

One-Time Orientation Payment

After successfully completing orientation and all required training, you’ll receive a one-time $200 orientation payment to help you get started as a Kids’ Test Kitchen facilitator. Many facilitators use these funds toward equipment—such as a hot plate—and assembling their facilitator kit.

Class Supplies

KTK funds the consumable supplies needed for every class.

• Receive a $40 advance before each class to purchase ingredients and other required consumable supplies.
• If approved consumable expenses exceed the standard allotment, we’ll reimburse the difference.
• As an independent contractor, you’ll provide and maintain your own reusable equipment.

Additional Opportunities

• Opportunity to earn performance and other bonuses.
• Most experienced facilitators complete shopping, preparation, teaching, and cleanup in approximately 2 hours per class.

Do I need teaching experience?
No. Teaching experience is not required, though experience managing groups of students is helpful.
